What is CBD?
What is CBD?
CBD – It’s an relatively new product, but how can it benefit you? Most people haven’t even heard of it and yet it’s starting to appear in conversations around sports, food and beauty products.
The most sensational aspect is its derived from the cannabis plant, which has previously been associated with laziness and overeating. However, CBD takes some of the beneficial aspects of ‘weed’ and makes use out of them for positive ends.
It’s mainly used in the form of an oil derived from industrial hemp, which contains more CBD than our traditionally crossbred strains of cannabis hemp used for smoking. This is altogether a different product from dried marijuana flowers, after all. CBD oil can be bought at varying concentrations and is generally eaten or vaporised into the lungs.
How Does CBD Work?
The way it works is by interacting with a special subsystem of the nervous system, known as the ‘endocannabinoid system’. This is the part of our body which has interacted with cannabis products since we started using them as long ago as ten thousand years. However, CBD is a little different from the psychoactive THC that humans have sought from cannabis until very recently. It doesn’t have the same intoxicating or negative effects as THC – but can help you and your body wind down after physical activity or if you just feel strained or anxious.
When taken orally or vaporised CBD interacts directly with the brain via the endocannabinoid system – sending signals through the nerves to the brain to regulate the levels of other chemicals our body produces naturally. This has an effect of masking pain, prohibiting anxiety and inflammation as well as helping promote appetite. However, it’s not completely known how this varies from person to person, or why the effects of CBD change depending on who takes it.
How Do I Take CBD?
There’s currently a great new craze of trying to incorporate CBD into even more products – edible gels, capsules, topical creams and balms and beauty products. There’s CBD chocolate candies and other edibles to try, as well as many vaporiser flavours and manufacturers. There are even whole recipes dedicated to putting the often bitter CBD in foods to mask its flavour and make a delicious meal. So many things to try – and it’s extremely safe to do so as well, there is an extremely unlikely chance of overdose or reaction due to the hemp plants high compatibility with the human body. If you feel the need to, consult your Doctor for more info beforehand.
What Are The Benefits Of Using CBD?
CBD can work for some people in one way and the effects may not manifest in another person – due to the concept of ‘neurodivergence’, the way all our brains and nervous systems are ‘wired up’ differently. This means a wide range of people might glean a wide range of uses from this powerful plant product – it might be useful for some athletes to help reduce the feeling of muscle strain and inflammation, or people with nervous anxiety problems feel more confident.
So for someone interested in CBD at this point, we’d encourage trying it out and seeing if it works for you in a way that makes you feel better. The most important thing is putting your well being first with CBD oil 5%. If it works then great, but there’s always the chance it may not. Again, the ball is in your court and we offer as many ways as possible to try CBD on our website.
